Working draft

This page describes what happens to a dream in Tarn today, as the product is built now, not as it is planned. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and is not legal advice. When something changes, this page changes with it.

Our privacy principles

A dream is among the most personal things a person can share, and in Tarn it is usually someone else’s: your client’s. Privacy is the same ethic as the product, applied to their data.

Where a dream goes

When you ask for a reading, the dream is sent over an encrypted connection to Tarn’s server, hosted by Vercel, and on to Anthropic, which drafts the reading. There is no way to produce a reading without this; it is how the tool works.

Tarn’s server keeps no copy of that request. For each call it logs which kind of call it was, the model, how long it took, its size and cost, and whether the answer came back well formed; never the dream or the reading. Like any website, the hosting logs record each request’s address and page, not its content.

Anthropic keeps the request and the reading for 30 days by default, and may access them in that time for safety and security purposes. They are never used to train its models. Tarn uses Anthropic under a Business Associate Agreement, through an account configured for health information.

What is stored, and where

A dream you save is stored in Tarn’s database, hosted by Supabase, under your practitioner account, with its readings and the figures recorded from it. It stays there until you delete it. It is encrypted in transit and on the hosting provider’s disks; Tarn does not add a further layer of encryption of its own today.

If a save cannot reach the database (a dropped connection, a failed save), the dream is kept in your browser so it is not lost, and is removed from the browser once it saves. That copy belongs to your account, so anyone else who signs in to Tarn on that browser does not see it. Signing out removes it, so a dream that has not saved by then is gone. Your reactions to a reading, with any note you wrote and the dream’s title, are kept in your browser until you sign out. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.

About you, we keep your email address, the name you are shown by in Tarn, the date and wording of the permission you confirmed, and when you sign in. For each client, we keep the name you give them and the consent you recorded for them. Signing in uses a one-time link sent to your email; there are no passwords.
